In it's topical form, ACZONE (Dapsone) is officially indicated for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

How does this medication work? 

ACZONE (Dapsone) possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.  The mechanism of action on how Dapsone treats acne vulgaris is not known.

How should I take this medication? 

Acne Vulgaris
Topical: Apply a pea-sized amount of gel in a thin layer over the affected area once to twice daily.  If no improvement after 12 weeks of therapy, consult with a medical doctor.

How to Take: Clean the skin before applying ACZONE (Dapsone) and rub the gel into the affected area.  Avoid applying to your mouth, nose, eyes, mucous membrane, and/or broken skin.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting ACZONE (Dapsone), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take. Dapsone can cause localized discoloration of the skin and facial hair if benzoyl peroxide is used subsequently. Avoid using Dapsone in patients with congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Serious allergic reaction, including rashitching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizzinesstrouble breathing.
