What is this medication? 

ALLERJECT (Epinephrine)
Alpha/Beta Agonist

Epinephrine is indicated for the management of anaphylaxis shock symptoms.

How does this medication work? 

ALLERJECT (Epinephrine) binds to alpha-, and beta-adrenergic receptors which causes relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and dilation of skeletal muscle vasculature.  Epinephrine contains an electronic voice instruction system to help guide you through each step of the injection.

How should I take this medication? 

IM: Inject 0.3mg or 0.5mg (use 0.5 mg in patients >50 kg) intramuscularly using the 1 mg/mL solution; may repeat every ~5 to 15 minutes (or sooner if clinically indicated) if patient does not adequately respond. Most patients respond to the first or second dose; if inadequate response, additional measures should be instituted.

How to Take: Intramuscular administration in the anterolateral aspect of the middle third of the thigh is preferred.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

The use of ALLERJECT (Epinephrine) can in some situations worsen or aggravate angina pectoris or induce cardiac arrhythmias, causing pulmonary edema.

What if I miss a dose?

ALLERJECT (Epinephrine) should be used immediately to treat yourself or your child when experiencing a severe allergic reaction. This is emergency treatment. It does not replace seeing a doctor or going to the hospital. After injection, seek immediate medical attention.

How should I store this medication?

Always store auto-injector in the carrier case until use. Store at room temperature between 15°C-30°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Protect from light, heat, and moisture. Periodically check to make sure the solution in the auto-injector is not brown in color. Replace auto-injector if solution shows haziness, particulate matter, discoloration or leakage. Replace auto-injector before expiration.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication? 

Angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmia, hypotension, ischemic heart disease, tachycardia, ventricular arrhythmia and fibrillation, anxiety, dizziness, restless, tingling sensation, restlessness, diaphoresis, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, insulin resistance, lactic acidosis, nausea, vomiting, tremor, dyspnea, pulmonary edema.
