What is this medication?

Cefprozil is indicated for the treatment of exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, skin and skin-structure infections.

How does this medication work?

Cefprozil binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall  which in turn inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis. Bacteria eventually lyse due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases) while cell wall assembly is arrested.

How should I take this medication?

Oral: Take 250mg to 500mg every 12 hours to 24 hours.
