What is this medication?

COSOPT (Dorzolamide/Timolol)
Beta-Blocker, Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor, Antiglaucoma; Ophthalmic

COSOPT (Dorzolamide/Timolol) is indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to beta-blockers.

How does this medication work?

COSOPT (Dorzolamide/Timolol) is a immunosuppressive agent that reduces the production and release of interleukin II and inhibits interleukin II-induced activation of resting T-lymphocytes via inhibition of calcineurin.

How should I take this medication?

Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 2 times daily.

How to Use:  If using additional topical ophthalmic preparations, separate administration by at least 5 minutes. Remove contact lens prior to administration and wait 15 minutes before reinserting. Instruct patients to avoid allowing the tip of the dispensing container to contact the eye or surrounding structures. Ocular solutions can become contaminated by common bacteria known to cause ocular infections. Serious damage to the eye and subsequent loss of vision may occur from using contaminated solutions.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting COSOPT (Dorzolamide/Timolol) make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, and activities you perform.  Dorzolamide/Timolol has been associated with severe allergic reactions or allergens, bacterial keratitis, ocular effects including conjunctivitis and lid reactions.  Dorzolamide/Timolol should be used with caution in patients with diabetes, heart failure, hepatic and/or renal impairment, myasthenia gravis, thyroid disease, peripheral vascular disease.  Do not use in patients with narrow angle glaucoma.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should I store this medication?

Store at 20°C–25 °C (68°F–77 °F). Protect from light. Unused single-use containers may be stored in the opened foil pouch for up to 15 days. Do not freeze.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Dysgeusia, burning sensation of eyes, stinging of eyes, blurred vision, conjunctival hyperemia, eye pruritus, superficial punctate keratitis.
