DICLEGIS/DICLECTIN (Doxylamine/Pyridoxine) is indicated for nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy.

How does this medication work? 

Doxylamine blocks histamine H1 receptors on effector cells in the chemoreceptive trigger zone of the brain, decreases vestibular stimulation, and labyrinthine function of the inner ear through its anticholinergic action thereby reducing nausea.

Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) is a precursor to pyridoxal which is important in metabolism, the release of glycogen for energy, and in the synthesis of GABA in the central nervous system and heme for red blood cells.  

How should I take this medication? 

Oral: Take 2-4 tablets divided into 3 daily dosages, starting with 2 tablets before bedtime then adding morning and afternoon if symptoms unresolved.  Should be taken as scheduled and not on an as needed basis for maximum effect.

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, swallow whole, take consistently at same times each day on an empty stomach unless otherwise directed.

Note: Operating heavy machinery or driving at least until you know how the medication affects you.  Make sure your physician is aware of any other medications you are on and do not mix with any other CNS depressants such as alcohol. 

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting DICLEGIS/DICLECTIN (Doxylamine/Pyridoxine), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you have asthma, urinary bladder neck obstruction, glaucoma, a peptic ulcer, or a pyloroduodenal obstruction. 

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Drowsiness, dizziness, xerostomia (dry mouth), palpitations, paradoxical central nervous system stimulation, vertigo, anorexia, constipation, urinary retention, blurred vision.
