What is this medication?

DUREZOL (Difluprednate)
Corticosteroid, Ophthalmic

DUREZOL (Difluprednate) is indicated for the treatment of ophthalmic inflammation; uveitis.

How does this medication work?

DUREZOL (Difluprednate) is an ophthalmic corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation.  Difluprednate also penetrates the eye to induce the production of lipocortins which modulate the activity of prostaglandin and leukotrienes.

How should I take this medication?

Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye 4 times daily.

How to Take: Wash hands prior to use and avoid touching tip of dropper. Remove contact lenses prior to use. Do not reinsert contact lenses within 10 minutes of using Difluprednate eye drops. The use of the same bottle for both eyes is not recommended in surgical patients.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting DUREZOL (Difluprednate), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take.  Prolonged use of Difluprednate may result in posterior subcapsular cataract formation.  Also using Difluprednate following cataract surgery may delay healing or increase the incidence of bleb formation.  Difluprednate has been linked to corneal perforation, exacerbation of infections, glaucoma, immunosuppression.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature 15°C to 25°C (59°F-77°F) protected from light, heat, and moisture.

Do not leave the top/lid off the bottle for any length of time to avoid contaminating the eye drops.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Anterior chamber inflammation, blepharitis, cataract (secondary), conjunctival edema, corneal edema, eye pain, ocular hyperemia (ciliary, conjunctival, limbal), photophobia, headache, blurred vision, eye irritation, uveitis.
