What is this medication?

EDARBYCLOR (Azilsartan Medoxomil/Chlorthalidone)
Angiotensin II receptor blocker, diuretic

EDARBYCLOR (Azilsartan Medoxomil/Chlorthalidone) is indicated for the treatment of hypertension.

Certain diuretics can increase the risk of choroidal effusion, acute myopia and acute angle-closure glaucoma.  Azilsartan acts directly on the renin-angiotensin system and may cause injury and death to a developing fetus.  If women are pregnant, discontinue therapy immediately.

How does this medication work?

Edarbyclor is a combination of Azilsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker and chlorthalidone, a diuretic.  Azilsartan inhibits angiotensin II’s vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland tissues.  The action is independent of the angiotensin II synthesis pathways.  Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the cortical-diluting segment of the ascending loop of Henle.

How should I take this medication?

Oral: Take 1 tablet (azilsartan 40mg/chlorthalidone 12.5mg) once daily; dose may be increased after 2 to 4 weeks as required.  Maximum daily dose of azilsartan 40mg/chlorthalidone 25mg daily.

How to Take:  Take without regard to meals.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting EDARBYCLOR (Azilsartan Medoxomil/Chlorthalidone), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, and activities you perform.  EDARBYCLOR can cause electrolyte disturbances, hypotension, photosensitivity, deterioration in renal function, and rarely angioedema. edarbyclor should be used with caution in patients with aortic/mitral stenosis, diabetes, gout, hepatic and/or renal impairment, electrolyte imbalances (i.e hypercalcemia, hypokalemia), and systemic lupus erythematosus.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
