What is this medication?

JALYN (Dutasteride/Tamsulosin)
5 Alpha-Reductase Inhibitor, Alpha Blocker

JALYN (Dutasteride/Tamsulosin) is indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How does this medication work?

Dutasteride is a 4-azasteroid that selectively inhibits 5α-reductase which results in the inhibition of the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with an enlarged prostate.

Tamsulosin is an alpha blocker that relaxes smooth muscle tone in the bladder neck and prostate causing an improvement in urine flow and reduces symptoms of BPH.

How should I take this medication? 

Oral: Take 0.5mg once daily.

How to Take:  Take 30 minutes after a meal, same time each day.  Swallow the capsule whole. Do not break, split, open, crush, or chew the capsule.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting JALYN (Dutasteride/Tamsulosin), make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, and current medical conditions. Dutasteride/Tamsulosin have been reported to cause floppy iris syndrome during and after ocular surgery.  Tamsulosin can cause significant orthostatic hypotension and syncope.  Dutasteride/Tamsulosin should be used with caution in patients with hepatic and renal impairment.

Note: Not indicated for use in women.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication? 

Dizziness, breast changes, gynecomastia, ejaculatory disorder, impotence.
