What is this medication?

Betamethasone+Clotrimazole (Topical), Lotriderm/Lotrisone
Topical Corticosteroid; Imidazole Derivative Anti-Fungal

Betamethasone+Clotrimazole (Topical), Lotriderm/Lotrisone is indicated for various fungal skin infections, especially when symptom relief is needed such as with itch, redness, and irritation.

How does this medication work? 

Betamethasone may reduce the formation, release, and activity of inflammatory mediators such as kinins, histamine and prostaglandins.  Reduces cell migration to the affected area and reverses the dilation and blood vessel permeability result in decreased access of cells to the site.  It has anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, and antipruritic properties.  

Clotrimazole alters cell wall permeability of susceptible fungi by binding to phospholipids on the fungal cell membrane resulting in loss of intracellular content.

How should I take this medication? 

Apply to affected area(s) twice daily for a maximum of two weeks of continuous therapy.

How to Take Betamethasone+Clotrimazole (Topical), Lotriderm/Lotrisone: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, apply consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature.

You Need to Avoid: High potency steroids generally should not be applied to groin, axillae, face, or diaper area unless told otherwise by prescriber.  Avoid application to broken or infected skin unless directed by physician.  Avoid applying other topicals at the same time unless otherwise directed to avoid dilution of product.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting use of Betamethasone/Betaderm/Diprolene/Luxiq/Sernivo make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Dry skin, burning, and stinging of application site (uncommon and generally mild reactions)
