What is this medication?

Histamine H1 Antagonist, Second GenerationMast Cell StabilizerPiperidine Derivative

Indicated for treatment of Allergic conjunctivitis.

How does this medication work?

Ketotifen, Zaditor is a noncompetitive H1-receptor antagonist and has mast cell stabilizer properties.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting Ketotifen, Zaditor make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding. 

How should I take this medication?

Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily every 8 to 12 hours

How to Take: For use in eyes only. Allow at least 5 minutes between applications of other eye drops

You Need to Avoid:  Do not let tip of applicator touch eye; do not contaminate tip of applicator. Contact healthcare provider if change in vision, eye pain, or redness occur.  Remove soft contact lenses prior to administration.  Wait 10 minutes before reinserting.  Do not wear contact lenses if eyes are red.  Notify healthcare provider if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 3 days Do not use if solution is cloudy or changes color.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible.  However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose.  Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times.  Store at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep the container tightly closed.  Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Headache, conjunctival injection, rhinitis
